Rainbow Wood Curriculum

rainbow2

Our nursery curriculum follows both a holistic and a scaffolding approach. The holistic approach supports the whole child, their physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual development. Alongside the Holistic development of the child, Rainbow Wood follows a scaffolding approach to all areas of the children’s learning. This approach requires an adult to add additional layers to what the child is doing; this may be adding extra props to help the children to build on their learning experience. Scaffolding gives support and encouragement to the children without giving them the answer, the main objective is providing support, encouragement, and praise through education, building confidence and self-competence as the skillset improves. Across the whole nursery, children are provided with activities and support to encourage them to grow a mutual respect for each other to understand and accept each other’s differences.

Jelly Babies

Our intent in the Jelly babies room is for the children to become confident and comfortable with their Key worker in order for them to explore confidently to build on all areas of their learning and development. The babies will begin to communicate using gestures supported by practitioners; they will develop their gross motor skills and begin to control the large movements of their whole bodies. The Jelly babies will be offered lots of stories to develop an early love of books and use stories and rhyme to hear the language of number. Babies will be supported to understand the effects they can begin to have on others by being surrounded by attentive and nurturing adults. They will have access to lots of different resources to help them to begin to understand different aspects of the world around them.

Jelly Tots

The intent in the Jelly tots is for the children to build on the children’s personal social and emotional skills to encourage them not only to feel confident individuals within our nursery but to begin to have their own interests and become aware of their unique abilities. We encourage and support the children to begin to take part in their own personal care routines and begin to learn how to use the potty and toilet. The children in nursery are encouraged to have a love of books. The children access technology to widen their experiences. The children gain a real understanding of special people to them and understand members of their family.

Jely Beans

The intent in Jelly beans is for the children to gain the skills that they need to embark on their next big adventure onto school. The children are encouraged to develop relationships with their peers and be able to talk about each other similarities and differences. We work with the children to understand the effects of their behaviours and actions to help them to follow appropriate boundaries. Our Jelly beans are encouraged to use and love words and learn lots of new vocabulary and use this while communicating. The children develop independence and develop a sense of pride when they are able to achieve new goals. They practice controlling mark making tools and practice being able to write their own names. Stories and poems are highlighted in nursery to instil a love of books and language into our children. We use the seasons to learn about how living things change over time and to encourage the children to show care for living things.
